Johnny Harris Project

In February 2022, I received a call from Carol. She and her husband had purchased the large chandelier that once hung in the iconic Johnny Harris restaurant, and they wanted to have it restored. I was immediately excited about the opportunity to work on such a significant piece of Savannah’s history.

The next step was to meet her husband at the warehouse where the chandelier was stored. When we arrived, two things became immediately clear: the sheer scale of the project — the chandelier was about 5 feet by 5 feet — and how meaningful it was to the couple.

As we sat in his office, he shared their story. Carol and her husband had been friends in high school and even attended prom together in the late 1970s. Part of their prom date included dinner at Johnny Harris.

Fast forward more than 30 years: after both had married other people, their paths crossed again. They discovered that one of them was divorced, and the other was about to be. Soon after reconnecting, they began dating.

Years later, Mr. B hosted a large dinner party and charity fundraiser at Johnny Harris. During his speech at the event, he proposed to Carol — a moment he had carefully planned. To everyone’s delight, they were married on the spot, becoming the only couple ever to be married at Johnny Harris.

Today, the fully restored chandelier holds a place of honor in their new home. A big thanks to Liz for her invaluable help with this project!
