About Re-enlighten Savannah GA

With over 50 years of experience, my journey in lamp repair began in childhood and was later rekindled through my wife Robin’s antique business. I took an interest in her work, drawn by her keen eye for unique items — as anyone who has bought from her can attest. What started with simple fixes and trips to Home Depot gradually evolved into a specialized skill. I established accounts with lamp parts suppliers to maintain a steady inventory, ensuring quick turnaround for my customers.

After repairing around 20–25 lamps for Robin, she suggested I get business cards and, in her words, “have a hobby when you retire.” In August of 2010, I repaired my first lamp for a customer, Alex Raskin, a well-known antiques dealer in Savannah. Since then, I have repaired thousands of lamps and chandeliers.

We’ve established referral partnerships with prominent lighting businesses, including Visual Comfort Lighting, Pace Lighting in Savannah, and more recently, Capital Electric Lighting in Bluffton, SC.Every repair presents its own unique challenge. Some are as straightforward as replacing a cord or socket, while others involve removing rusted, stubborn parts or rewiring chandeliers that were originally gas-lit. I’ve converted European chandeliers, modifying sockets to accommodate standard candelabra bases, and adapted British Standard pipe fittings to U.S. specifications.

My custom work began with a commission from Matty Hartley, who asked me to transform an old wooden chicken coop into a ceiling light for her store, Matty’s Trash and Treasures. It sold within the first week. Since then, I’ve designed and built custom pieces using a variety of materials, including driftwood, architectural house parts, concrete planters, artillery shells, and even an African impala horn lamp with a hide-wrapped shade. These creations have become conversation pieces in my clients’ homes, often sourced by local Savannah interior designers.

After years of working from home, business growth prompted the need for a dedicated studio space. In September 2023, I relocated to 915D Montgomery Street. The new studio not only accommodates repair work but also showcases a variety of lighting — both traditional and eclectic — available for purchase. I remain committed to delivering the highest quality repairs and crafting unique lighting creations for all my customers.
